Bonobo chimps: Our Closest Relatives.

The Bonobo is a separate chimpanzee species. They are considered, by some, to be an even closer relative to man than the other chimpanzees. They are a highly endangered species, meaning that there are very few left an we are continuing to put pressure on their populations.

Watch this video about the Bonobos and comment (at lease two sentences) on the content of the video. Then you should find a link and write (at least three sentences) about the link you have posted. The link could be about:
How scientists determine how closely a species is related to us.
How to protect endangered species.
Should we care about other species, endangered or not?
Evolutionary descendancy (family tree) of primates.

As always, you have until midnight Friday (April 10) to complete this project for credit.

  1. I think that these Bonobo monkeys are like us. I say this because they live in large families that take care of one another, just like we do. It also said that to settle their problems they do not fight, they have sex. Some people in our society do the same thing and settle their differences like the Bonobos. These animals have soime human characteristics which I think makes them more like humans than any other species.
The website that I have selected is the National Wildlife Federation. I chose this site because not only do they have information about the Bonobos, but they have information about lots and lots of animals and how to help save the endangered species. On this site, there was the article about the Bonobos, which I have linked to. This article talks about how the Bonobos that live in different regions develop different hand and facial gestures. Depending on where the Bonobos live, a hand reaching out could be "help" the Bonobos in danger or "can I have some of that food?" I think that this site is pretty cool and gives a lot of thorough information. If you would like to see this site Click Here

  2. This video provided great insight into the very alerting extinction of the Bonobos. I believe that it is very important in making sure that we keep this species alive because it continually provides information about us as humans. It is also very fascinating to see the similarities in between the Bonobos and humans, such as how the Bonobos really care for their children just like most American parents do. It gave a lot of important information that I believe more people should know so that we can be more aware of these types of animals.

    Salamanders at Risk

This article was informative due to the fact that salamanders which appeared to be pretty common are now facing extinction. The scientists who surveyed the region in Western Guatemala found that deforestation and climate change have played a role as to why some species that were found in the 1970's were no longer in abundance. Perhaps this could be attributed to global warming.

  4. I think this video was very interesting. The thing that chimps and humans have in commen is amazing. Its sad that people would kill such a species so close related to humans for food or money.

    Poaching

This article is about how poachers kill animals for a great amount of money. Poaching is illegal and should be stopped. Murdering helpless animals that are close to being extinct is unnecessary. Lets hope Poaching is put to an end.

  5. I thought that this article was interesting. This video can help people understand that Bonobos are starting to become extinct and that they need to help save them. I also find it very interesting all the similarities between humans and Bonobos.

    Endangered Species

The website talks about ways that you can get involved to help the endangered species. One way is to protect their habitats permanently like having national parks, nature reserves and wilderness areas. I think that this website is good on informing people what they should do to help the endangered species.

  6. I think that it is really cool how these animals act and behave. It kind of interesting to find out that instead of fighting they find other ways to solve their problems. I think that this video was very informative and very fascinating.

Below is a site that shows how to protect endangered animals and species. It gives simple advice (like picking up trash) and more complicated ways to help them (like making national protected parks). I think that this site is very informative and worth a look if you happen to care about our planet and the things that live on it.
