The discussions of whether there are any real differences between the sexes has gone on for many generations. Now, scientific investigation is beginning to show that there are real differences between the ways that the brains of the different sexes work.
This is a site with a video that details the differences in brain studies between the sexes.
For this project you should first look at the video. Then you will have to find other sites or articles that discuss how the sexes are different or similar. You should link to your site. Then discuss in one or two paragraphs (at least 6 sentences) what the article discusses and what you think this means for the way we must deal with these differences and still treat all people equally.

Different Brains
ReplyDeleteThis article explores similarities and differences on several different levels regarding how men's and women's brains are different. The fact that stood out to me the most in this article is how different the gray matter vs. the white matter seems to be in the brains of men and women. While men have 6.5 times more gray matter than women, women have 10 times more white matter than men. This would indeed seem to be directly linked to how men and women process information.
Gray matter represents the processing center part of the brain and white matter represents the networking of these processing centers. Scientists believe that is why men seem to be better at such tasks as reading maps or mathematics while women tend to be more verbal and excel more in language ability. Dr. Bein, do you think that is why my father won't stop and ask for directions when he is lost?

This article and movie puts both the similarities and differences between men and women out in the open. It seems that men and women respond to under pressure circumstances differently. For example different parts of the brain operate when dealing with stress. The mens (violent) left side responds and the womens center (emotional).
ReplyDeleteSome scientists have studied that men seem to be better at Reading and Math. While women can be more verbal and will excel in a language. I believe that this is because some men and younger boys seem to self assured and won't ask for help or don't like talking. While women and younger girls seem to talk to everyone they know or will ask for help because they are not the "macho" being if you will.

Men and women have many differences as well as many similarities. According to a recent study, men and women do think differently. The brain is made of two different types of tissue, known as the gray and white matter. Research has shown that men think more with the gray mater while women think more with white matter. In the human brain, the gray matter is known as the information processing center while the white matter works to network these processing centers. Even thought this may be a difference, this does not affect the intellectual performance and both sexes should be treated with equality.

This article describes the differences between the male and female brain. I'm sure there are many of similarities but the differences between the two seem to make the sterotypical male and female. They show that women are more emotional and that men block pain and are "tough". They also show which sex is more likely to become drug dependant and have mental health issues.
ReplyDeleteI think that these differences between the brains men and women are outstanding, but a person is a person is a person. No one should be treated differently because your brain functions in a different way. There is no need for one sex to be superior to another. We are all part of the human race and should be treated equally no matter how great the differences are between two people.

ReplyDeleteWhen you look at a brain, it is just a brain. You can't tell the difference just by looking at it. This article describes how brains are different even though you can't tell the difference just by looks. There are many similarities and differences in male and female brain however and it is hard to tell whether there are more similarities than differences.
Of course all people should be treated equally, no brain is dominant over the other sex. This article tells how scientists are now using rats' brains to conduct experiments on in order to find differences because no humans are willingly giving up their brain tissue. It also discusses the symmetry of the brain and how a female brain corresponds with a male brain.

ReplyDeleteOn this web page it is showing all the different ways that men and women are different but in categories. In the section of Neuroanatomical Differences I noticed that it mentioned the men brains are 10% larger than women’s and just because they are larger that does not mean that they are any smarter than women. Even though women have small brains usually they have a larger percentage of information-processing. When taking an intelligence test women often score higher then men. But men have a greater amount of cerebrospinal fluid than women so there geometrical capability is better. I think that both men and women have there own specialties in there brains that’s what makes us different.

ReplyDeleteThere are differences between men and women. Men are better at mathematical calculations will women have better verbal language. Guys are more independence then girls, but women are better with social skills then men are. There will always be differences between the two sexes that you can see and that you can not see.
