This will be the final blog project of the year. For this project you have two options:
- You will discuss something that you found particularly interesting that you learned this year because of the class. This could be a fact you came across in class or something that you found through these blogs projects. You will can write about that here. If you like, you may link to some Internet pages that add to this information.
- You can start some review. You should find a topic from the year and put together a review sheet. This must be an original work, and cannot simply be a copy of material that is already out there. You may set up a diagram or flow sheet for your information. If you cannot easily digitize it, hand it into your teacher and I will get it done. You can also organize the notes for a particular section. This should not simply be a collection of facts, but should be organized in a way to facilitate understanding the information.
This project must be completed by Sunday 6/6/2010. If you completed the previous May project it will earn extra credit. If you did not complete the previous project, but do a particularly noteworthy job on this it also may earn some extra credit.
I found many different things to be interseting and informative throughout the year. I found many things interesting while doing these online blogs and all of the articles that we read and wrote about. One of the most interesting articles that I read for these blogs was the first project we did. This article was about an extict Haast eagle that was a giant, ancient raptor that weighed about 40 pounds and became extinct over 500 years ago. The intersting thing about this very large eagle was that it had eaten other large flightless birds, and even small humans. I belived that this was one of the most interesting out of all articles. Another article I thought was interesting was how a new orgin of birds have been confirmed to be as the oldest birds ever to be founded. They had been researched to be very old, and to be about 168 to 151 million years old for one fossil and 164 to 158 million years old for the other ancient fossil named the Daohugou Formation.

I found the ecology unit interesting. This is because I like learning about climates and such going on in other parts of the world. For example I think the Rain forest biome is interesting. In the rain forest it’s very hot and it contains many interesting animals that aren’t seen here. I learned that since the soil isn’t very fertile people burn sections of the rain forest and then farm and then move (around every two years) to a different location because the soil was useless to grow on now.

I thought the strawberry DNA extraction lab was interesting and also the ecology unit. I thought it was interesting to actually see how much DNA there is in such a small thing. I thought the ecology unit was interesting when we looked at all the different biomes and what they were like. I thought the rain forest was the best. It contains life that we never see anywhere else. And this life could contain the cures to all sorts of diseases. All the exotic animals we never see here will be gone if people don't stop destroying the forests for their own purposes.

one thing that i learned from this class was the development of a baby. the fetus is soo tiny. but grows fast over the course of 9 months. by weeks 7-9 the head develops.and the face is easyier to see. it looks less like a animal and more like a human. also the baby begins to kick with in the 9-10 month and the stomach of a woman becomes noticable. by weak 12 the babys finger nails are developing. my favorite part about this was the picture that was shown to the class with the babys hand print.

Throughout the year we have learned and studied about many differetn topics. Though some of these topics are more intersting than others, it is hard to choose just one that i liked the best. Altohugh the topic of eveloution was quite interesting.The part of eveloution where we talked about how humans evolved from animals was quite interesting. Even though I didn’t always like doing them, I did find out some very interesting things by doing the blogs. My favorite blogs were the ones on flu vaccines and the minds of serial killers. I liked the blog Dr. Bein posted on flu vaccines because it said that scientists were coming up with a way to vaccinate people without using needles. They were going to use a high speed blast to force tiny particles of flu into your body. Since I hate needles, this sounded great! I liked the video on the minds of serial killers by neuroscientist Jim Fallon ( http://www.ted.com/talks/jim_fallon_exploring_the_mind_of_a_killer.html ). In this video, Fallon talked about his findings when comparing the minds of normal people versus the minds of serial killers. He said that serial killers have damage to their cortex, have a sex-linked gene called MAOA, and had traumatic, violent experiences before puberty. If this is true, maybe scientists can identify kids who have the MAOA gene through genetic testing and make sure the parents help them stay safe and don’t have any traumatic experiences.

Through out the year I think I enjoyed the strawberry DNA lab the most. The though it was so cool that I could actually like extract DNA and look at. Like I thought that only like a professional scientist could do things like that. So it was exciting that I got a chance to do that.

Think it was the ecological unit but I am not sure. I liked that a lot because I want to do something in biology like maybe and an environmental engineer, however I am not sure yet.
