Real or Hoax?

Many claims are made, that offer scientific evidence. But is this evidence valid? This project asks you to explore that question. I have chosen a product that offers scientific evidence for their product. And now I want you to see if that evidence makes sense, based on your understanding of the science involved, and your research.

Easy water makes the claim, "EasyWater is a water conditioner that physically changes the minerals in water to prevent them from forming scale". For this project, you should go to their site and take a look. Write a paragraph about how they say their product works. Paragraphs should be at least three well constructed sentences. Feel free to ask for additional information from them or to call them and question them about their product.

Next you should and write a well constructed 3 sentence paragraph about whether you think the science they explain is true and is this really an alternative to water softeners? To do this you should explain the true scientific facts about their claims vs the facts that you can verify independently.

Make sure you put your ID and class section on your work. This project is due by midnight Sunday, 4/18. Remember that you need to do either this or the next project. If you do both projects one will count for extra credit.

Spelling counts. Please do your project in a word processor and then cut and paste it into the comment box. Sloppy work really doesn't save you time, and it there are glaring spelling errors you will lose credit.

If you have problems, email me at aphsbio at gmail.com. Please tell me exactly what your problem was including any error messages.

  1. This company is advertising for a water softener that softens the water without using salts or filters. It eliminates hard water build up. It does this by physically changing the minerals in the water. The minerals lose their ability to stick to pipes and appliances because it sends eletronic frequencies through the water pipes. The eletromagnetic charge they get causes them to not stick.

After listening to this I believe that this could actually be an alternative way to soften your water in your home. Since it has an insolator that is attached to your water pipe it sends eletronic frequencies through the water pipe. What this does is it causes them to lose their eletromagnetic charge that is keeping them attached to the side of the pipe in the first place. This makes sense as to why it would work. If they have no eletromagnetic charge than they can no longer stick to the sides of pipes. This sounds like a logical thing.

  2. This company advertises for a water softener. This softener reduces the hard water without using salts or filters. By tampering with the properties of the minerals in the water reduces the stacking of hard water. The minerals which stick to the pipes lose their ability to stick because it sends eletronic charges through the water pipes.

I think this is an excelent way to reduce hard water throughout the homes. I think this because of the electrical charges that are sent throughout the water pipes is an eco-friendly way that does not not require any harmful substances. The insolation system is the way it works, it decreases the electromagnetic frequency in the minerals which allows them to flow through the pipes instead of stick to the walls of the pipe.

  3. EasyWater, a company based out of Greenfield, Indiania claims that their product can prevent scale build-up. To do this, EasyWater uses electronic frequencies to physically change the shape and charge of the minerals in water. The difference from a regular water softner is that a softner just replaces minerals with salt.

I believe that EasyWater Systems has come up with a great alternative to a water softner. This does not use salt water in the process and this helps to prevent the build-up. I belive that the science they explain on their website is true and is a great alternative to a regular old water softner.

  4. On the Easy Water website it talks about how their product works. It states that a wire attached to one of three different types of plumbing pipe, with an energy signal that go’s through it prevents the water from getting scale by molecular agitation. It also says that in untreated water the minerals float around in the water, and intern will lead to scale on pipes. In Easy Water it says that the molecules stick together and loose there electrostatic charge and thus float away down your drain.

From my recollection of electrical, for this to work in my opinion I would think that the minerals would have to have some for of metal in them so they could be conductive to the electrical pulse. I do not think that this is an adequate alternative for water softeners. Also it says that it can break hydrogen bonds to clear existing scale pipes, this form of pure water would not have the ability alone to clear scale, or break hydrogen bonds.

  5. The EasyWater water softener doesn’t work like other water softeners. It doesn’t use any salt to remove the minerals in the water. Instead, the EasyWater softener uses electrical current to break up the molecular bonds and change the shape and charge of the molecules so that they are flat and can stick together. The company says that since the molecules are flat, they stay together and just flow right through your pipes. The minerals won’t stick to the sides of your pipes and cause build up.

Based on the research I did on the internet, I don’t believe that this product would work. There’s no research out there that says that electromagnetic fields can be used to change the shape or makeup of the minerals found in water. Since EasyWater doesn’t remove the minerals from the water like the softeners that use salt so the buildup will continue to happen. Even if their product worked on a smaller scale, I don’t think it could work on the amount of water used in our house every day. Based on what I read, the buildup happens when the water gets heated up in the hot water heater. Since the EasyWater system is used at the cold water source, I think that the buildup will still occur in the hot water heater and hot water pipes. Another thing to think about is that the EasyWater site says it will not remove water spots from glasses or remove iron stains. That another system is needed if you have these problems. So, if you need a second system, a salt system too, why buy this product?
