Then write a paragraph about how you think this technology might be used to track some other occurrences on our planet. Finally you should link to an article about a way that other scientists use another method to track what is happening here. This could be chemical monitoring, direct observation, or any other method. ReplyDeleteFor the penguins, the temperature due to global warming could make it an unlivable habitat for them. Scientists made graphs showing the the seasonal temperatures for three Antartic Stations by sattelites and thermometers.

This technology could be useful for finding and tracking certain seal populations that also live on the ice. You could also use this new technology to estimate how many predators of the penguins there are. Like if the penguin population is down you can probably guess that the leopard seal (a major predator of the penguins) population is down too.
ReplyDeleteThe link show how scientists use critter cam to monitor a penguin population. The scientists strap a mini camera to a penguins back and then let him go into the water. This helps scientists better understand how far a penguin can dive and how cold the water is down there.

this technology could be used to track migrating birds on the endangered species list. This would Help determine if the birds population is higher in one area then the other, which in that case scientist's or animal rights activist's could breed them in that area before they return so the population has a better chance of surval.
ReplyDeleteGray Wolfs were taken off the endangered species list in 2008 but enviormentalists keep trying to get them put back on the list because they say like Wyoming(Gray Wolfs remain endangered there) they have not done enough in states such as Montana, Minnesota,and Idaho for the population to be back to a safe level.

I think there are many methods available to track other occurances on earth. One that is of particular interest to me is how weather is monitored from space. By monitoring weather from space, the accuracy of our weather forecasts can be greately increased and severe weather conditions and natural disasters such as floods can be better predicted.

The link that I found discusses a new satelite being developed by NASA called Hydros, which will help monitor the Earth's water cycle. The satelite should begin to provide data to scientists in 2010.
Soil moisture monitoring can be a valuable tool for so many people including farmers who could use the information to predict when to plant their crops or how to develop their irrigation systems. Scientists could also use the data to predict severe storms or floods. Although flooding cannot be stopped, if a possible flood could be predicted, many lives could be saved.

ReplyDeleteAnother technology might be used to track some other occurrences on our planet is the Hubble Teloscope. This tecnology takes pictures from space of all places on earth. It allows us to see places with out having to be there by pictures.

I think that this technology could be used to find other species that are considered to be extinct. If scientists can find different trails for certain animals, we may find some that we thought were gone. This could greatly increase the chance of there being more species that could survive longer.

Scientists are recently researching ways to monitor the Bald Head Island deer population. Some are researching the deer grazing habits and how it could effect the island. If they overgraze on Live Oak trees, they could change the island's whole ecosystem. So far, the village brings in hunters to reduce the population each winter. Some residents are against the loud gun firing. Over the next year they plan to monitor the migration patterns of the deer.

This technology can be used to help track any endangered speices such as the panda. If the populations for this species is followed well it may help bring it back to a safe amount. This can also track preditors and competitors of the panda.

Scientists are using satelites to track endarged bird populations. These satelites help find where they are located and how many of them there are. These also help find new species of birds.
