Blogversation project

This project should feel like a conversation, but it is on line. Just like a real conversation it will work best if you pay attention to what the person before you says, and you comment on that. Conversations should flow, and like a conversation the topics discussed in the postings should change and evolve.

The requirements for postings are given below. Your entries may be opinions, but they must be supported by appropriate links. You may agree or disagree, but you must do so politely.

Topic of discussion: Smoking

Each person should begin by watching one, two or all three of the videos:

OOPS

Truth Song
Doesn’t Kill You

First: Discuss how effective you feel this type of advertisement might be for a teenager.
This should be at least 2 sentences.

Next: You must also include both of the following:

1.A comment, in a minimum of four sentences, on the content of the prior postings' blog, article, website or video about what the previous person has written (unless you are the first, then you can just start off with a statement about smoking and how it relates to health).

2, A supporting link to a news article, a video a blog or a website related to your opinion.
Be sure to put your initials and section to get the credit.

**Extra Bonus: If you come back and make a second entry to discuss what others have posted (yeah, like a conversation where you say something, someone else says something, and you say something else) I will award 2 extra points, up to 4 additional entries. That means that if you come back and make 4 additional entries you can get a 20 (out of 10) for double score extra credit.

This project is due by midnight on Friday March 6.

  1. I think that this type of advertising is very effective. This type of advertising is very effective because when teens watch these they see how rediculous the people in them sound.smoking is overall a really dumb thing to do.I think that if smoking was illegal we would see the amount of people with cancer greatly decrease.smoking doesn’t only hurt the person doing it,but it also hurts the people that care for them. 2. I think that advertising this way is quite effective. I mean, if teenagers see this, they will hopefully notice that it's stupid to smoke. However, I'm not sure if teenagers are always willing to listen to what adults and the groups that make these commercials say. An article I found that proves that smoking is just ridiculously stupid, is right here.

Also, I have to agree a lot with the last comment because I think we should make smoking illegal. What good does it do anyone? If you cancer from it, you're hurting your family & friends greatly. It's so dumb.

  3. I feel that this type of advertisement could be very effective for a teenager. The videos show how crazy it is for anyone who would want to smoke to do so. Also, you could say that these videos reach out to all kinds of people such as the first one, in which for a teenager. The videos show how crazy it is for anyone who would want to smoke to do so. Also, you could say that these videos reach out to all kinds of people such as the first one, in which an animal lovers would be affected. A look at just the facts that tobacco has on people are shocking. Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, and tobacco use is associated with a number of different cancers.

  4. These types of ads are extremeley effective. These ads show how stupid smoking is by telling kids all the time and everywere that smoking will kill you or ruin your body. What is amazing is that kids still smoke even though they know and have been told smkoing kills them. This video shows that you dont always die from tobacco but you will lose your body. You dont always die from tobacco...

  5. I did not notice this before but for the comment that TC Green left, the video is very good. It's sad & emotional but it's telling the truth & showing people what smoking can do to you. I think that last year, Rick Stoddard, the guy who made the video, came & talked to us. I'll always remember it. It was almost impossible to sit through.

  6. I think that this type of advertising is not very effective. I feel this way because when someone see’s this advertisement they don't think that it could ever happen to them. Until it happens to someone, in which they love. These advertisements don't make aware of the bad side to smoking until a smoker experiences it themselves. To show that smoking is bad click a here

I kind of agree with TC Green, but not totally. Yes, people that smoke are dumb and stupid for doing so but what teenager that smokes thinks its stupid; none. They think its cool to smoke, and its not. If smoking was illegal there would be a decrease in cancer, which is really good and I absolutely agree with TC Green and think that cancer would be reduced greatly.

  7. I think that the 3rd song/advertisement made a lot of sense. It showed you the bad sides/effects of smoking, instead of making it look fun and popular. The singer had a hole in his throat and had to talk through a device, who would want that to happen to them.

I agree with LS Green that smoking is stupid and something needs to be done about it. I think that it should be illegal for people under the age of 16 to even have cigarettes in the first place and that parents should get in trouble for buying cigarettes for their children or if the children even get caught.

  8. These commercials are extremely effective. I think that they all related to different people in different ways. All three of the commercials show that it is dumb to smoke. Smoking is just a faster way of dying. I also feel that by smoking you’re not only killing yourself but other people around you.

I agree with CW Green. I think that it should be illegal for children to be smoking. And I think it is insane that parents even buy their kids cigarettes because it’s just killing their kids. And why a parent would want to harm their kids in any way is beyond me.

  9. I have to agree with KH Green. Who knows why parents buy kids cigarettes? I mean, they basically are just killing the kids by allowing them to smoke. There's a reason you're not supposed to be able to buy cigarettes until a certain age, you're not old or mature enough for it but not that there really is a "mature" age for smoking cigarettes.

  10. These commercials impact our lives and i think that they do work on many people. They show all of the stupid things that can go wrong by smoking, and also how disgusting it is. You may as well eat them whole because that is what you doing anyway.

    The man who eats cigarettes

I also aggree with CW because it is awful seeing innocent little children breathing in smoke. They aren't old enough to know any better not too. Also parents are major influences on thier children. When they see that what they do is ok then they want to do the same. When they support smoking even more its outragous that they will buy them for thier kids.

  11. First of all OMG ROFL! The first video was hilarious! Yeah these videos are effective! You see them and know just how dumb people are who smoke. Don't they have any brains or does the smoking affect that too? As far as making smoking illegal, I do not think that it would work out well. What are police supposed to do? go around checking everyone's home. It would be good but I personally think it would be impossible to enforce.

  13. in terms of the 2nd video,(dancing one) I dont think it is very effective because it makes a joke out of the issue. So people are not going to take it seriously just like we dont take comics and cartoons seriously. Click Here

  14. i do have to agree with CW green. the dancing video probably doesn't have as much of an effect because they make it funny like it's no big deal.

  15. I absloutely agree with AW Yellow. I agree with that person because the person will think that smoking is fun and games and its not. Smoking is horrible and ruins people's lungs. I don't know about anyone else but I certainly don't think that smoking is funny in any way. Smoking is a serious issue, and cigarettes need to be not given to teenagers.

  16. Unfortunately, the person above stated a sad truth. The kids who agree and think these are funny and effective are all probably NON smokers. But the reality is there are kids out there, even though there is HUGE documentation that smoking is bad for ones body, that will still continue to smoke or start if they havent already. That is because they feel they look cool. CRAZY! how the public reaches that crowd, I HAVE KNOW idea. They may have to find out for themselves unfortunately. CMM GREEN

  17. I think these are very good advertisements against smoking and especially the ones with the hampster and the song. They will stick in your mind and will be a reminder to stop smoking or to not start. They may be a little too sugar coated to stop people who are smoking already however. I agree with how it is nuts that people think it is " cool". I agree that most people who think these are funny are probably non smokers and a different message may be needed to get to them like this: Click Here

  19. I agree with SJB Yellow that from time to time kids have been told not to smoke but still do. My question is why? What's so cool about smoking? My answer is nothing. I say this because it's not cool to die from lung cancer or other cancers, that's not cool.

  20. I think that advertisements that are against smoking are an effective way to help prevent fewer teens from smoking. The advertisement shows the bad and stupid effects it can have on a person.

    Stop Smoking ad

I agree with SJB yellow and how kids still smoke even though it is bad for them. I think that with all the anti-smoking advertisements that fewer teens are starting the habit of smoking.

  21. I think the first video has next to no effect on teens smoking. Its just hilarious. It doesn't encourage or discourage smoking. It's just a funny clip. I agree somewhat with what SJB yellow said, about kids still smoking. I believe that telling kids not to do it and how addictive it is, can make it more appealing to them. There isn't much anyone say to get a kid not to smoke, kids learn by doing. Yes, everyone knows smoking is bad, but no matter how many ads they put out, it wont effect anyone nearly as much as a personal experience with how bad cigarettes can be will. which is very sad.
